Earlier this year, newspaper and magazine travel pages were pointing towards an unlikely new-found destination, the small working fishing village of Fuseta, on Portugal’s eastern Algarve.

With a safe and shallow lagoon, an island beach and dinner for two still possible for under €25, Fuseta’s charm had caught the eye of travel journalists around the world, seeking both value and authenticity.
