Tax policy must address growing transport emissions, climate council warns

Transport emissions grew 6 per cent in 2022 while other major sectors saw 5 per cent declines, leading the Climate Change Advisory Council to warn Ireland is unlikely to meet its first carbon budget.

The council described the sector as a “major concern” as petrol and diesel sales continue to increase and conventional vehicles, rather than electronic vehicles, make up a large percentage of overall sales.
