Tánaiste Micheál Martin said the deaths of two teenagers on the Greek island of Ios were every parent’s nightmare.

“I think we’re all devastated at the loss of such young lives with such great potential, Andrew O’Donnell and Max Wall,” he told RTÉ Radio One. “And our deepest sympathies go to their parents, to their families and to the entire school community of St Michael’s.”

Martin, who is also minister for foreign affairs, said he had spoken to Tim Kelleher, the principal of the school in Ballsbridge in Dublin, on Monday morning.
