Ireland’s national debt fell from €46,530 per person to €43,357 in 2022 as the state posted a surplus of €8.5 billion in 2022, an improvement of €15.1 billion on 2021, according to new official figures.

In that year, the second year of Covid-19, the state posted a deficit of €6.6 billion.
