Senior official to encourage whistleblowing at Department of Reform

Role first mooted at department last October ahead of new legislation coming into force

A senior official tasked with encouraging civil servants to speak out against internal wrongdoing is to be appointed in the coming weeks at the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform.

Following a number of amendments to the Protected Disclosures Act, which came into effect on January 1, the department has confirmed that a “whistleblowing champion” is expected to be in place shortly.
