Meet the artist: John Noel Smith
The Dublin-born artist, who spent many years living in Germany, finds inspiration in Bach’s cello suites and reveals the advice he was given in a bar in Berlin
John Noel Smith was born in the seaside village of Malahide, Co Dublin. He graduated from Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art and Design in 1976. He studied at the Univesität der Künste Berlin, Germany in the 1980s where he lived before and after the Berlin Wall fell. He spent 22 years working in that city, exhibiting in Europe – mainly in Scandinavia, Germany and Ireland.
