And they’re off . . . sort of. Since Ronald Reagan addressed its inaugural gathering in 1974, the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) has been the launch pad for Republican rising stars and presidential contenders. For almost half a century, it was the single unmissable event in the GOP calendar for any Republican considering a run for the White House.
