Both BlackRock and State Street have called for the Central Bank to again be given powers to promote financial services
When two significant investors in Ireland make similar statements about policy, it is worth taking note. International firms don’t usually intervene in domestic events unless they feel they are making an important contribution.
So when BlackRock and State Street both called for responsibility to promote financial services to be handed back to the Central Bank, it raised eyebrows across the wider industry and indeed in the Department of Finance.
