EU countries are preparing to back Kristalina Georgieva for a second term as managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), according to reports, casting doubt on the idea that Paschal Donohoe might land the role.

Donohoe, Ireland’s minister for public expenditure, has been linked with the job for months after Bloomberg reported he had held preliminary talks before Christmas.
