ICTU health and community workers to go on indefinite strike

Workers in a range of organisations, funded by state agencies, will begin industrial action on October 17

Owen Reidy, general secretary of ICTU, said the State had failed to sufficiently address the staffing crisis in the sector. Picture: Maxwells.

Thousands of health and community workers nationwide will commence an indefinite strike next month, according to the Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU).

The industrial action - set to begin on October 17 - follows a series of ballots by Fórsa, the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO) and Siptu.

The decision continues an autumn of unrest in the health sector, with clerical workers in the HSE voting for industrial action in August.
