‘Grave day for democracy’: politicians condemn Leinster House protests

Review to be launched into Leinster House security after 13 demonstrators were arrested for disruptive scenes

Disruption outside the Irish parliament marked a “very sad day, a very grave day for democracy” in Ireland, politicians have said.

Thirteen people have been charged by gardaí after demonstrations, which saw entrances to Leinster House blocked, and protests, which included a mock gallows featuring ministers and opposition TDs.

A review of security at the home of the Oireachtas is to be launched in light of the incident, according to reports.
