Bakhurst announces RTÉ recruitment freeze and stop on discretionary spending
The RTÉ director general wrote to staff this morning ahead of an appearance before the Oireachtas media committee
Kevin Bakhurst, the director general of RTÉ, has announced a recruitment freeze at the organisation.
In a letter to staff this morning, he added that the broadcaster has also decided to stop “all discretionary spend to preserve cash”.
The correspondence comes hours before Bakhurst and members of the RTÉ board are due to face questions from the Oireachtas media committee about spending by the broadcaster over the past decade.
