Backstage: what it takes to put together Ireland’s favourite festivals

From the Fleadh Cheoil to Puck Fair to Westival, unseem teams of volunteers work the entire year to make fun in the sun for festival goers

The streets are packed with revellers, jostling for pole position to watch the free and seemingly impromptu performances in shop doorways and street corners. Music fills the air, and every second person appears to be carrying a banjo, fiddle, bodhrán or – with a little extra help – a harp.
