It was never really in doubt, but the government won its motion of confidence in Helen McEntee by a comfortable margin of 83 votes to 63 on Tuesday night.

With their majority propped up by a significant group of Independents, the government responded to Sinn Féin’s motion of no confidence with its own reverse motion of confidence in the Minister for Justice, sparking an evening of fiery exchanges in the Dáil chamber.
