When the most recent corporate tax receipts for August showed a year-on-year drop of €1 billion, it sparked concern across government that the state’s golden goose may be running out of eggs.

While many believe the August drop was just a blip, Michael McGrath, the Minister for Finance, predicted at the Fianna Fáil think-in this week that the period of extraordinary growth in corporate tax receipts was coming to an end.
