Saudi Arabia’s shock move to take over professional golf last week was an unprecedented escalation of the country’s ‘sportswashing’ campaign but it is clear that it has bigger targets in sight.

With the merger into one entity of PGA, the DP Tour (the European Tour), and the Saudi backed LIV, Saudi Arabia’s regime sent out a message of its intention to use sports to further its aims.
