Boris Johnson is willing to sacrifice his Caribbean holiday and return to the Commons’ mayhem to assess his own chances.

Whoever thought that boring would be an attractive asset in the political life of a country. But there comes a time for everything and, as we watch our nearest neighbours lurch from lettuce to laughs and back to instability and chaos, we begin to grasp why, for them, boring would be beautiful.
