The morning after the Dublin riots I stopped to congratulate a young garda who was on duty in the sentry box outside Leinster House. I told him that I thought the gardaí had done a great job the previous night in what can only have been very difficult circumstances and the fact that no one was seriously injured or killed was remarkable.
