The ongoing row about Coillte may represent the ultimate in magic money tree thinking by some of our politicians.

The resources of Coillte, and of the state, are far from bottomless. An enormous number of new trees have to be planted and forests created for carbon capture if the country is to go some way to meeting its essential environmental targets. That’s going to need equally enormous sums of money.
