John Walsh: Like our precarious energy supply, crisis also looms for our water system

That Ireland is not in a better position to withstand shortages is an indictment of a political system mired in short-termism and expediency

The revelations in this newspaper last Sunday, and over the past year, about looming energy shortages seem to have caught the government by surprise. The Taoiseach gave solemn pledges during the week to review the country’s energy security, but there are no short-term fixes for potential shortages this winter.
