John Walsh: Far from being full, Ireland needs to see more migrants to drive economy

A national debate on the subject is needed – not to give a voice to hatred but to show how damaging restricting movement could be

There needs to be a national conversation about immigration following the riots that took place in Dublin’s north inner city.

But this conversation cannot be shaped by the putative reasons behind the hatred and inchoate rage that exploded following the tragic and senseless stabbings of three schoolchildren and their teacher on Parnell Square on November 23.

In other words, Ireland is not full and the government is not a willing protagonist in the ‘great replacement’ ...
