Ian Guider: Bakhurst has boxed clever so far, but fightback over cuts looms

Many of the suggestions in RTÉ’s direction document make sense, but there are staff members who would prefer to preserve the status quo

“We will be a better custodian of public funding,” RTÉ grandly declares in its new direction document, which was released last week in an effort to move on from its summer of scandals.

It’s hard to see how things could get any worse for the broadcaster after the months of controversy that have tarnished its reputation and led to a licence fee-payer revolt that has added to its financial insecurity.
