Elaine Byrne: Sipo stands impassively by as Sinn Féin plays to different rules on how it is funded

The watchdog with responsibility for transparency in how elections are financed does not do its job

Sinn Féin plays by different rules to other political parties when it comes to election funding. The regulator tasked with oversight of political funding stands by and watches on like an impassive observer.

I do not use these words lightly. The Standards in Public Office Commission (Sipo) is an ineffective regulator which lacks the curiosity to do its job during a critical time in Irish public life.
