The party is in danger of losing viability as a political force at the next election, as many TDs who have served for decades are retiring

There are two schools of thought about Fine Gael’s prospects after the next election.

The first is terribly dramatic. Some Fine Gael insiders are whispering loudly about the party returning its first ever sub-20 per cent vote share and a wipe-out of seats, which would threaten its viability as a political force. Like I said, dramatic.
