With less than a year to go before the European Parliament elections, the issue of neutrality has become a key battleground.

Last week, Lisa Chambers, the leader of the Seanad, said she was “considering” running for Fianna Fáil in the Midlands/North-West constituency. There is probably more to the Mayo senator’s public pondering, given that her announcement was made to waiting reporters as she stood beside the Tánaiste and the Minister for Finance.
