Editorial: Recognising Palestine must be done judiciously

One of the starkest divisions between the West and the rest of the world can be seen in their contrasting positions on the question of Palestine

Some two thirds of members of the United Nations recognise the state of Palestine, which was declared by the Palestine Liberation Organisation in 1988 and has observer status at the UN. They include China, India, Brazil and Turkey, which wield significant diplomatic, political and economic clout globally and have a stake in the Israel-Palestine conflict as legitimate as the West’s.
