Editorial: Much to be done to salvage Ireland’s woeful record on delivering major projects

For the past decade, at least, successive governments have persistently misunderstood the nature and scale of the housing shortage

The ESRI has highlighted an urgent policy issue for all our political parties. The National Development Plan must not be condemned to fail before it has even properly begun.

Ireland’s reputation for completing infrastructure projects on time and on budget is poor. Too many things – hospitals, transport initiatives, even simple initiatives such as improving our urban environment – take too long to plan and build, and almost always cost more than envisaged.
