Editorial: Confidence vote shows Sinn Féin not ready for power

The opposition should hold the government to account but using the riots to sow division smacks of opportunism

Next Tuesday, the Dáil will suspend its normal business for several hours to hear the debate on Minister Helen McEntee’s performance and then a vote will take place

From the moment Mary Lou McDonald, the Sinn Féin leader, said she had no confidence in Helen McEntee, the Minister for Justice, and Drew Harris, the Garda Commissioner, it was a case of when and not if a formal motion would be tabled in the Dáil.
