Ireland’s 2022 census, published last month, showed that the country’s population has exceeded five million for the first time since the Great Famine, making Ireland the third-fastest growing EU country over the past decade. This is due in large part to net migration reaching a 15-year high, with the number of people born outside Ireland now comprising 20 per cent of the population.
