Analysis: Whatever the housing target, it looks like the state is stuck at current levels
As Department of Finance officials warn the state’s housing target must be increased to 50,000 homes, it’s difficult to see how that number could be achieved
When the government launched its landmark Housing for All plan in September 2021, it committed to investing €40 billion in state funding to support the development of an average of 33,000 homes a year over the course of a decade.
The plan marked the government’s attempt to draw up a comprehensive policy response to the housing crisis that has overshadowed the wider economic recovery in this country since the financial crash.
