It might come as a shock but it won’t be a surprise to those who have been watching closely that the rate of problem gambling in Ireland is much higher than has been previously measured.

New ESRI research commissioned by the state’s recently established Gambling Regulatory Authority has found that one in 30 adults in Ireland suffer from problem gambling.

This equates to 130,000 people - and is far higher than previous research has indicated.
