The European Commission has announced major changes in

the rules governing the sale of tobacco products, including the end of packets of ten cigarettes.

Health Minister Simon Harris, who has signed the new Tobacco Products Directive into Irish law, has welcomed the measures.

Under the new rules, graphic health warnings must cover 65 per cent of the surface of cigarette packs. This rule also covers roll-your-own tobacco packs.
