Rent report signals accommodation squeeze for students

Daft.ie says second quarter increase was largest since 2006

Figures from property website Daft.ie show that rents across the country rose by an average of 3.9 per cent during the second quarter of this year. This was the largest quarterly increase since 2007, according to Daft.ie.

The site's rental report showed that the average monthly rent in the second quarter was €1,037, a record high.

In Dublin, the annual rate of inflation in rents in the year to June 2016 was 11.1 per cent,its highest since late 2014. Daft.ie says rents in the capital are now 5.2 per cent higher than their previous peak in early 2008.
