The number of new private cars licensed for the first time rose by nearly 35 per cent in January to 27,106 while the number of new goods vehicles increased by 36 per cent, new figures from the Central Statistics Office show.
The total number of all new vehicles licensed last month was 31,150, an increase of 34.5 per cent on the same month in 2015.
