Sales of Jameson whiskey continued to enjoy double-digit growth in the first half, rising by 11 per cent, as parent company Pernod Ricard announced the appointment of Jean-Christophe Coutures, the head of its wine-making division, as the new chairman and chief executive of Irish Distillers.

He will replace Anna Malmhake, who is taking over as head of The Absolut Company, maker of the group's famous vodka.
