The revelation ofIndependent TD Michael Lowry’s deal to get a 40-bed patient hospital in his Tipperary constituency is extremely awkward for Fine Gael.

The party does not like being reminded of the fact that Lowry was once one of its most promising prospects, even being mentioned as a future leader.
