Golden State governor faces a motley crew of challengers
As Gavin Newsom battles against a recall process to stay in office in California, his political rivals include a porn actress, a reality TV star and a former mayor of San Diego
On November 6 last year, a group of conservative California Republicans petitioned a local judge to extend their time to gather names for a petition to recall Gavin Newsom, the state’s Democrat governor.
They had been collecting signatures for the petition since February, but had only managed to collect 68,000 of them – far below the 5 per cent of California‘s 1.495 million population required to set the cumbersome and costly recall process in motion.
