The key to successfully negotiating in the work environment is to start by building trust. One of the best ways to build trust is to deliver for people.

Once people trust you, two things start to happen. They give you the space and accountability to grow professionally. Then the push-pull factor comes into play, where colleagues want to share with you and tap into your knowledge.
