Mobile devices have revolutionised the workplace, but what are the risks, asks Róisín Kiberd

In April this year, the US Department of Homeland Security reported a strange and worrying problem. Fake mobile phone masts, also known as IMSI catchers, or ‘International Mobile Subscriber Identity’ catchers, had been found dotted around Washington DC. Masquerading as real phone masts, these interceptors were able to track movements, break encryption and eavesdrop on phone calls and texts.
