Universities increasingly promote their research centres as focal points for innovation, but Martin Delaney, who heads up Maynooth University’s Innovation Value Institute, focuses on something very specific, very important — and something very often neglected: measuring business IT capability.

“The more important you are, the more competent you think you are, but it’s often inversely proportional: we find companies that are in really bad shape but don’t know they are,” he said.
