When you consider that there are over a billion cars in the world, but that on average they remain parked for 23 hours a day or over 90 per cent of the time, it’s clear that nowhere near the most efficient use is being made of them.
A research group from IBM wants to use internet of things (IoT) technologies to harness the power of parked cars to offer serious benefits to society. But if you’re thinking this is a car pooling project, then you’re way off course.
