Ten years ago, the ‘last mile’ was a quagmire in Ireland. The gap between a small firm’s premises and the fibre backbone that would connect it to the world was bridged by an ADSL copper-wire connection or a wireless signal, delivering a couple of megabytes if you were lucky. And you could expect to pay around €40 for the privilege.
