Slack needs to stop slacking, and quickly
Microsoft's Teams tool now has 20 million users, compared to Slack's 12 million. Can the original survive and thrive?
Slack's share price plunged this week after Microsoft revealed its rival Teams product had overtaken the latter's collaboration tool, and then some. Set up in 2013, Slack has 12 million customers. Teams, which only launched two years ago, has 20 million, and has added seven million since July.
Slack has never been profitable, and its user growth numbers haven’t really come under the spotlight until now.
