Legal challenge could cost HSE millions in late payment fees

Homecare Medical Supplies, a Mayo-based medical supplies company, has taken legal action against the HSE seeking compensation for what it says is €800,000 owed in unpaid late payment compensation over the past six years

The HSE is facing a legal challenge which could result in it having to pay out hundreds of millions of euro to businesses in late payment fees.

Under the EU regulations, all public sector bodies have to pay late payment interest of 8 per cent per year if they do not pay an invoice within 30 calendar days. But there is also an automatic right for companies to be paid compensation.
