This lovingly restored farmhouse has a fascinating past as a hideaway-cum-lookout-post in the War of Independence, but is now simply a quiet eyrie with stunning views

It was the spring of 1921, and the Blackstairs mountain range in Wexford was teeming with rebels. Up in the hills was an old farmstead where IRA volunteers held meetings, ran training camps and made gunpowder, bombs and buckshot. It was high enough to allow easy detection of approaching constabulary and soldiers.
