Arkle and Pat Taaffe were the finest combination of horse and rider ever to clear a steeplechase fence. They dominated National Hunt racing in the mid-1960s, winning three Cheltenham Gold Cups, two Hennessy Gold Cups, an Irish Grand National and a Whitbread Gold Cup.
