Kildare County Council under fire for cutting housing target by 26,000

Builders, local politicians and businesses say dramatic change to development plan will make crisis worse

Kildare County Council has cut its housing target from 32,407 to 6,023, causing outrage among builders, local politicians and businesses in the area.

The council recently issued a variation to its county development plan, which runs from 2016 to 2023, radically reducing its housing target in light of new guidelines in the National Planning Framework and the Regional Spatial and Economic Strategy (RSES).
