Arguably the most important manuscript ever to go under the hammer in Ireland leads Fonsie Mealy’s sale next week. Recently rediscovered, the contemporary manuscript’s eyewitness account of the Fall of Constantinople in 1453 was written by Dominican friar and scholar Leonard of Chios. Captured during the siege but released, he made his way back to Chios itself, where he wrote his narrative and sent it to the Pope.
