Fragments of maritime history in DeCourcey sale

There’s a fascinating footnote to maritime history in the DeCourcey House Contents Sale this week. Built by Harland & Wolff and launched in 1901, the White Star liner RMS Celtic plied the Atlantic between Liverpool and New York City.

She survived striking a mine off the Isle of Man in 1917, being torpedoed by a U-boat in 1918 and two serious collisions in the 1920s, but her luck finally ran out in 1928 ...
