Bidding gets under way for Matthews Knockboyne House Contents Sale at 2.30pm today.

Furniture highlights in this Victorian villa include a Regency fold-over card table with brass inlaid decoration (€1,000-€1,500), a pair of Irish satinwood demi-line side tables (€2,000-€3,000), a pair of ginormous brass bound peat buckets with swing carry handles (€1,200-€1,800) and an ornately carved Jacobean monk’s bench (€250-€350). A rarity is a Russian icon depicting Christ (€200-€300).
